The Challenge
Restaurants on Square POS needed a self-ordering layer where customers could place table-linked orders without rebuilding menus and modifiers in a second system.
What We Built
We built WaitRunner as a QR self-ordering platform for US restaurants. Customers scanned table-specific QR codes, ordered from a Next.js menu synced from Square catalog data, and orders appeared in a React Native iPad Control Center through GraphQL subscriptions. The product is now shut down, so this case study is written in past tense.
How We Delivered
Built a customer-facing Next.js menu app with table-specific QR ordering.
Synced Square POS catalog and modifier structure into WaitRunner so restaurants did not duplicate menus.
Delivered a React Native iPad Control Center with real-time order pop-ups, print, prepare, and charge workflows via GraphQL subscriptions.
Ran the backend on DynamoDB and AWS Lambda as a serverless order-processing stack.
